CYCLE EXPERIENCE AND MODAL SPLIT MODE. A QUANTITATIVE APPROACH
FIETSBELEVING EN VERVOERWIJZEKEUZE. EEN KWANTITATIEVE BENADERING
In traffic and transport models modal split is mainly used on objective transport characteristics such as journey time per transport mode, before and after transport per public transport, etc. It is expected that besides these objectives, aspects of performance also influence the selection of transport mode, for instance the measure in which somebody finds cycling comfortable, pleasant or dangerous. In this report the effects of such aspects are studied. The aspects are called subjective transport characteristics. Interviews were carried out to find answers to the following questions, (1) Do subjective aspects of experience influence the choice of the bicycle as a transport mode? (2) Which aspects are relevant in this context and how great is their influence? (3) Is it possible to show in a model what the effects of the change in attitude will be on the selection of the bicycle? (TRRL)
