STUDIES RELATING AUTOMOBILE DESIGN AND VEHICLE SAFETY: AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
This bibliography provides references to studies that have used actual accident statistics to determine the effectiveness of automobile design changes and covers the period from 1954 through mid-1981. Both U.S. foreign studies are cited. The main sources used to identify the references are noted. The citations which are annotated and arranged by year of publication are assigned subject headings and have in-depth bibliographic information. Subject, author, and corporate affiliation indexes are included. This bibliography reveals certain trends: (1) the number of publications increased from 1954 through 1973, dropped and then peaked again in 1977, and dropped again; (2) seat belts was the subject area receiving most attention; and (3) the corporate bodies producing the most literature were Cornell University, Automotive Crash Injury Research, University of Michigan, Highway Safety Research Institute, and the University of North Carolina.
