MODEL TESTS OF MATERIAL FLOW THROUGH DREDGE CUTTERS AND SUCTION PIPING
Hydraulic flow conditions near and within rotating cutter- head of suction dredge were studied in laboratory by means of scale models and flow visualization techniques; suction- study experiments confirmed that aggregate withdrawal is primarily dependent on bank repose angle of submerged material being dredged; Reynolds scaling criteria govern for dredge suction-inlet scaling; suggestions for improved inlet conditions are made; cutter-head wear tests on model points, at different orientations, gave meaningful wear indications.
