NEWCASTLE AREA BIKEPLAN

The report is the major output from a comprehensive bicycle transportation study directed by the Traffic Authority of New South Wales as a pilot study for the state. It documents the major findings of the study, including the determination of cycleway action plans for the study area, and recommends programs in the areas of education, enforcement, encouragement and engineering. As a pilot study from which planning, design and implementation techniques which have been trialled and evaluated in Newcastle, it provides guidance for the development of bicycle strategies for other urban centres. It builds upon the experience of related work undertaken in Australia and thus represents a further and significant step in the evolution of cost effective bicycle planning and implementation methods.
