FORENSIC SCIENCE IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Forensic science is considered to be very useful in (1) establishing the identity of the hit and run vehicle, (2) determining the blood alcohol levels of the drivers and the persons involved in accidents, (3) determining the speed of the vehicle at the time of accident, (4) problems related to mechanical failure of the vehicle. Case studies are cited explaining the detection of vehicles involved in some accident from their paint marks or broken pieces of glass. Determination of blood alcohol level of both vehicle driver as well as the cyclist or pedestrian involved in an accident has been suggested to know the cause of the accident. The covering abstract for the proceedings is TRIS 368005. (TRRL)
