THE DOWNHILL SLUMPING OF SOLIDS IN A SLURRY PIPELINE IS PREVENTED

The downhill slumping of solids in a slurry pipeline is prevented by valves spaced along an inclined portion of the pipeline and set to close automatically when the flow rate falls below a predetermined value, each valve being associated with a bypass in the form of an upstanding loop which has sufficient storage capacity to retain in its uphill leg the slurry entering the bypass after shutdown of the pipeline.
