SCOUR AROUND BRIDGE PIERS
Present practice for estimation of maximum scour depth around bridge piers is based on Lacey's regime depth formula in terms of discharge intensity and silt factor, which does not consider the effect of pier geometry. The pertinent prototype data consisting of pier geometry, mean velocity, kinematic viscosity, size of bed material, depth of flow and maximum scour depth have been analysed and the empirical formulae for assessment of scour depth have been developed.
