RAIL TRANSIT SHOEHORNED INTO CONGESTED URBAN SITE

Construction of a complex, 3.2-mile subway extension located mostly in Cambridge, Mass., that involves construction immediately adjacent to both a major university and operating rail lines, and at a terminal site plagued by poor soil is reported. The new station designed contains two rail tunnels and two bus tunnels, each at a different level.
