A PIPELINE IS LAID IN A PREDETERMINED PATH ON THE SEA BOTTOM FROM A SHIP
A pipeline is laid in a predetermined path on the sea bottom from a ship which has a guide chute fixed to the ship's side by lowering the pipeline down the chute into the water, automatically sensing the amount of stress in the chute due to the transverse drag forces created by the water against the pipeline, automatically altering the ship's course in the direction of these forces to diminish the drag and thus reduce the stress, and moving the ship along the predetermined path while steering it in the desired off-course direction.
