A SYSTEMS APPROACH TO BULK TRANSPORTATION
A systems approach to bulk transportation is needed in the application of slurry pipelines to bulk commodity transportation. Not only are factors in slurry preparation and commodity recovery at either end of the line involved, but factors that can improve processes leading into slurry preparation or out of commodity recovery. Other potential benefits of the systems approach include the potential for achieving economies of scale through pumping more than one product slurry in a given line, and considerations of intermodal transportation schemes that include slurry pipelines. It is becoming increasingly important in Canada that slurry pipeline transportation be given careful consideration.
