Sulfur is transported through a pipeline by (1) injecting molten sulfur into an aqueous liquid to form a slurry, (2) mixing a liquid hydrocarbon into the slurry, (3) allowing sufficient time for phase transfer of the sulfur particles from the aqueous to the hydrocarbon phase, (4) removing the aqueous phase, and (5) flowing the hydrocarbon slurry into a pipeline for transportation. The aqueous slurry may be injected into a pipeline containing a liquid hydrocarbon, specifically crude oil; the two phases flow along together until the phase transfer takes place; and the aqueous liquid is then withdrawn from the pipeline.
