MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS BETWEEN CROSSING PEDESTRIANS AND CARS

REKENMODEL TER BEPALING VAN HET AANTAL ONGEVALLEN TUSSEN OVERSTEKENDE VOETGANGERS EN AUTO'S

Research was done on the safety of a road for crossing pedestrians. A mathematical model was developed to determine the chance of a collision between a non-attentive crossing pedestrian and an automobile. The actual traffic situation, traffic concentration, vehicle speed, road width, etc are taken into account. This article shows the results of a study in which for six streets in the City of Eindhoven the results of the model are compared with the number of accidents which have happened there. (TRRL)
