ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SCHEME FOR THE TOWN CENTRE OF GRONINGEN
MILIEUHYGIEENISCHE ASPECTEN VAN HET VERKEERSCIRCULATIEPLAN VOOR DE BINNENSTAD VAN GRONINGEN
The environmental aspects of the introduction of the traffic management scheme for the town centre of Groningen are discussed. It is concluded that: (1) the noise level in the town centre has decreased considerably, (2) the hindrance of traffic noise has decreased for the residents of the town centre as well as for the visitors to the town centre, (3) the buses are now the most important transport mode causing noise, (4) nasty smell caused by traffic is not sufficiently prevented, and (5) there is progress in decreasing adverse environmental effects.
