HOUSEHOLD CAR OWNERSHIP AND MODE CHOICE FOR THE JOURNEY TO WORK

Drawing on 1976 census data, the paper presents new evidence on the factors affecting car ownership. Special attention is paid to household income, household size, residential density and access to rail. Using the same set of data, the paper then shows how the mode choice for the journey to work depends on car ownership, as well as on distance to the CBD, access to rail, household size, household income and residential density (a). The number of the covering abstract of the forum is IRRD no 255283. (TRRL)
