BART GIRDS FOR GROWTH
After years of effort to overcome technical problems in train control and car design, Bay Area Rapid Transit is running at close to its originally intended capacity level. Now it is embarking on a 5-year capital program aimed at doubling its capacity. Involved will be track changes, a new ATO system and 90 new cab cars. Funding remains a problem.
