THEORY OF ELECTRODYNAMIC LEVITATION, FUNDAMENTAL RESULTS AND FURTHER PROBLEMS

A survey is given of computational-theoretical methods for magnetic-suspension (levitation) problems pertaining to high-speed ground transport based on the principles of repulsion between an electromagnet installed on the vehicle and an electrically conducting roadbed. The following problems are considered; calculation of the lift and braking forces for a flat roadbed of finite width with utilization of a Fourier transform for the magnetic-field diffusion equation; calculation of the levitation characteristics for a bed of finite width by the solution of integral equations; calculation of lift and braking forces for discrete path structures.
