THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL AND CAFFEINE, ALONE AND IN COMBINATION, ON SKILLS PERFORMANCE
Results are reported from two experiments with human subjects under alcohol and caffeine alone and in combination. The experimental tasks selected reflect current opinions on the motor and cognitive demands of driving, the major area of possible utilization of a potential antagonism. The first experiment used two levels of alcohol and caffeine and the second experiment used three levels of each. Both studies used a common experimental battery. The results indicate that caffeine can reduce alcohol impairment of some driving-related tasks at some alcohol-caffeine levels. The results suggest that there may be value in examining other drugs with some potential for counter-acting alcohol effects. (TRRL)
