CIRCULAR TEST TRACK SIMULATING LIGHT TRAFFIC FOR THE STUDY OF SURFACE DRESSINGS

MANEGE DE SIMULATION DE TRAFIC LEGER POUR L'ETUDE DES ENDUITS SUPERFICIELS

The authors describe the circular test track and an initial series of tests on binders for surface dressings already selected by means of conventional tests on binders. The test track has 4 3-M arms, one extremity of which is fitted with the front axle of a light vehicle. The drive mechanism which commands the speed, braking, wheel convergence, data collecting and processing, is operated by a computer in accordance with the basic program on cassettes. The apparatus is portable. The last part of the article deals with the study of binders modified with polymers. A good correlation was shown to exist between the behaviour of the binders in the circular track and their rheological characteristics. It was demonstrated that predominantly viscous binders, even with high tenacity and independently of their susceptibility to cold, are classified far below binders with a light elastomer content. The study continued with a binder with a low elastomer polymer content. (TRRL)
