RESEARCH PROBLEM STATEMENTS: TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

This communication presents transportation system management (TSM) research problems identified and ranked by the Transportation Research Board Committee on Transportation System Management. They are as follows: (1) Improving the reliability of all-bus transit systems; (2) Facilitating energy savings through TSM programs; (3) Integrated traffic management system; (4) Long range effect of arterial street operations in residential areas; (5) Regional traffic authorities; Effects of regulatory policies on transportation system operations; and Private sector involvement in transportation problems at non-CBD high activity centers. The problem statement for each of these topics identifies the problem and objectives of the research, notes related work, the urgency for the work, estimated costs, the user community, and expected effectiveness.
