THE PERFORMANCE OF SELECTED PIPELINE COUPLINGS
Ten subsea mechanical pipeline couplings were tested experimentally under loading conditions of internal pressure, bending moment, and axial tension. Four were considered to pass the test; four failed by leakage around the coupling; and two by excessive deformation or separation of the coupling. The strain transition and the calculated stresses as the coupling is approached from a distance of one pipe diameter are in general agreement with thin-wall theory.
