CATHODIC PROTECTION OF SUBMARINE PIPELINES
Three systems for cathodic protection of submarine pipelines by an impressed current include: (1) sealed cells containing rectifiers attached to the pipe, the anodes of the rectifiers being connected to poles on the outside of the cells (system INTEG), (2) a separate cable laid parallel to the pipeline, with sealed rectifiers, having their negative poles connected to the pipe (system INDEP), and (3) a separate cable installed parallel to the pipeline, also with rectifier cells, but the cable contains a separate return conductor connected to earth (system LINEX). Design methods are given, and the systems are described and discussed.
