REVIEW PAPER: BOND IN FIBRE REINFORCED CEMENTS AND CONCRETES

Characteristics of different types of bond and their function in cement based matrices with fibre reinforcement are discussed. The assumptions about bond in a number of existing theoretical models predicting behaviour of fibre reinforced cements are reviewed and a graphical interpretation is used to demonstrate the influences of the main characteristics of bond on the failure of the composite. A critical survey of the methods for testing of bond is carried out and is supplemented by a discussion of the information about bond between cement matrices and different types of fibres currently available. The conclusions point out clearly the need for a continued research into the bond phenomena and indicate areas in which further work is recommended. (Author/TRRL)
