FAST TUNNELLING IN HARD ROCK

The largest tunnel-boring machine manufactured by the US Company Jarva Inc has achieved unusually high work rates on a 9.8 m-diameter tunnel under Chicago. This article describes briefly the design of the machine and the performance it achieved. (TRRL)
