TRANSPORT POLICY AND LAND-USE PLANNING

VERKEHRSPOLITIK UND RAUMORDNUNG

On the 23rd and 24th October 1919 the scientific plenary sitting of the Academy of Land-Use Research and State Planning took place. This dealt on the one hand with the basic problems of land-use planning and regional policy and on the other, in a special study group, the relation between land-use planning and transport policy. The papers on basic problems of land-use and regional policies made it clear that overall there had been only a disappointing level of success. With increasing shortages in available funds, there can be only a marked decrease in the influence of land-use planning in the future. In particular the instruments employed in regional planning were criticized. In the study group for land-use planning and transport policies the problems of public transport in the conurbations and in rural areas were discussed. The yield of specialist knowledge was however largely disappointing. Inordinate consideration was given to secondary issues and matters which have already been discussed at length in specialist circles, whilst fundamental problems such as the future application of priorities to requirements for which finance was no longer available, were left untouched.
