RESTRICTED RANGE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
This paper argues the case for using leaky feeder communication systems in mobile radio applications wherever they can provide adequate coverage, for example on roads and railroads. Illustrative examples are chosen to demonstrate thay by correct system design the range of such systems can be greatly restricted and their interference potential reduced. This is possible because the base transmitters only cover the region in the immediate neighborhood of the feeder while the mobiles can operate successfully with transmit powers down by a factor of about 1000, compared to conventional systems.
