PRESENTATION OF A NEW RHEOLOGICAL MODEL AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE CONSOLIDATION THEORY

PRESENTATION D'UN NOUVEAU MODELE RHEOLOGIQUE ET DE SES APPLICATIONS A LA THEORIE DE LA CONSOLIDATION

Long-term creep tests have shown that a rheological model based on the principle of superimposition was able to describe oedometer deformations under continuously increasing loads. When applied to a soil which is not completely saturated, it permits to give a correct representation of deformations and initial growth of pore water excess pressure towards a maximum lower than the applied load. Thanks to the simplifying of hypotheses the equations are formulated with dimensionless variables, and the results are presented in the form of charts. Besides the usual parameters, two rheological parameters are introduced to calculate the degree of settlement and the degree of consolidation. They are easy to measure. (TRRL)
