INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION IN THE FIELD OF ACCIDENT RESEARCH

INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT DES BEREICHS UNFALLFORSCHUNG

The report provides information of possible forms of international collaboration in accident research and introduces new examples to this end. One method concerns the exchange of information regarding completed research work, current work programmes, planned research programmes, descriptions of major medium term research efforts, government proposals to parliamentary organs and reports on the activities and organisational programmes of the co-operating institutes. Another form concerns the co-ordination of research activities by agreements on information, common discussions concerning objectives and exercises, debates on research capacity and financial resources and by establishing those areas of research and projects suitable for co-operation. A third form concerns the proportional financing of research projects and the sharing of the work involved. As examples of international research co-operation the following projects are mentioned: the research project "Preparedness for Risk, Speed Behavior and Accidents on Motorways" by the International Drivers Behaviour Research Association (IDBRA), the co-operation agreement between the Transportation Research Institute (TRI), Haifa and the Federal Institute for Road Research, Cologne, the working party of Dutch, Austrian, Swiss and German accident researchers, and international collaboration into the area of traffic conflict research.
