BRIDGE FIXED QUICKLY UNDER TRAFFIC
The report deals with the repairing of a cracked tied arch bridge. The two-lane structure at Prairie du Chien, Wis., is part of a crossing that carries U.S. Route 18 across two channels of the Mississippi River. The controlled jacking was monitored by strain gages to prevent overstressing. The jacks were to transfer the entire vertical load of the deck from the tie girders to the falsework system.
