Development of 2Chip IPCAM
Recently Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) which prevents vehicle from inadvertent lane departure, and Lane Keeping System (LKS) which reduces drivers' stress, have been released to the market one by one [1][2]. As for LDWS, International Standards Organization (ISO) is now well into the process of defining the standards. Given these surrounding situations, realizing low-cost lane recognition systems which institutes the core of LDWS and LKS is deemed to be vital upon expanding its market from luxury option to standard equipment for commercial and even low-end vehicles. For the reasons mentioned above, we planned to develop a low-cost lane recognition system, and we succeeded in building it in a 2-chip composition: a CMOS imager and a MPU. In this paper, we describe the solutions we took in order to realize the low-cost lane recognition system. We also describe the performance of a prototype.
