"SLIDING ARMOUR" SHIELD SOLVES KURIYAMA TRAFFIC PROBLEMS
The article describes a tunnelling project that took place under a busy railway line with only 20cm of cover and strict orders not to interrupt train services. It reports on how a Japanese contractor solved the problem using augered steel pipes for overhead support and a blade shield for excavation.
