CONCRETE STREETS AHEAD
Seventy- five per cent of new roads and streets constructed in Australia are built by local government bodies. Historically the majority of these roads have been constructed as flexible pavements with designs based on either state road authority practice or 'standard' pavement thicknesses determined by local experience. The increasing pressure to spend decreasing road budgets most effectively requires engineers to evaluate all alternative pavement types. Concrete pavements can be constructed economically and have low maintenance costs. The paper provides technical information on concrete pavement applications, advantages, costs, design, construction annd specification. (Author/TRRL)
