CONCRETE STRUCTURES INSPECTION AND REPAIR SERVICE
TWRL have been investigating the durability of concrete in marine and land based structures for over ten years during which time much of the findings have been published. The primary factors behind the deterioration process have been evaluated. These are generally the penetration of salt or carbon dioxide over time, the electrical conductivity of the concrete and the penetration of oxygen through the cover to the steel. Techniques, including non-destructive tests and sampling, have been developed to quantify the risk of corrosion of embedded steel before damage becomes apparent. Detection at an early stage reduces remedial costs to a minimum. (Author)
