THE INFLUENCE OF CHANGE IN COMPOSITION ON THE ENGINEERING PROPERTIES OF GRAVEL MIXTURE STABILIZED BY CEMENT

UTJECAJ PROMJENA U SASTAVU NA INZENJERSKA SVOJSTVA MJESAVINE CEMENTOM STABILIZIRANOG SLJUNKA

The paper investigates the effects of the composition of cement-stabilized mixtures (mechanical analysis, cement quantity, cement type, and state of compaction) on the properties of fresh mixtures of which the composition can be controlled (spatial mass and moisture), and the properties of hardened mixtures (modulus of elasticity, Poisson's coefficient, ultrasonic and tensile strength). Laboratory tests of stabilized mixtures of which the composition and properties vary within the limites of the Yugoslav standard and the mixtures having properties outside these limits have been described. Tests have been performed with the usual cement and hydraulic binder "stabiment" for cement stabilization. Investigating the correlative dependence of certain properties, compressive strength and indirect tensile strength, strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity, compressive strength and the speed of ultrasonic vibrations, and the speed of ultrasonic vibrations and dynamic modulus of elasticity, very close connections have been found based on some mathematical models. Analyzing the possible behaviour of a typical pavement construction in the case of changeable characteristics of cement stabilized bearing course, it has been found that changes in the mixture composition do not greatly influence the radial tensile stress in that course, while they influence more the indirect tensile strength of the material. A survey of the possible appearance of crackings in the basecourse has been given and the sensitivity of cement-stabilized mixtures to freezing has been indicated. (TRRL)
