EASE ON DOWN THE ROAD. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE FUEL EFFICIENT DRIVING TRAINING/MOTIVATION PROGRAM. MANAGEMENT MANUAL
Information is presented for the trucking company in implementing the "Ease on Down the Road" program, a driver-oriented training/motivational approach to fuel conservation. The training component has three elements: driver workshop meetings, self-study, and posted reminders. The motivational component has four elements: driver achievement identification, recognition reinforcement, reward reinforcement, and achievement information feedback. Following an overview of the current transportation energy situation, the program's objectives and materials, driver training approaches, driver motivation, and program support are presented. Steps are outlined for clarifying a company's commitment to the program and developing program details tailored to individual fleet operating needs and conditions. A sample schedule for program planning and implementation is included.
