WHEELCHAIR RESTRAINT EQUIPMENT FOR USE IN VEHICLES FOR TRANSPORTING THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED

A survey of currently employed wheelchair restraint hardware was conducted including that used by transit operators in Ontario and those manufactured in Canada and the United States. Nine properties including transit operators, manufacturers, non-profit organizations and private contractors were visited and a documentation was made of the systems reviewed. A subjective evaluation without testing was made on the equipment. Some twelve other manufacturers were contacted and information on their respective wheelchair restraint devices was requested. Information received from them is contained in the report. A list of North American manufacturers and distributors of wheelchair loading equipment is also included in the appendix. (A) (TRRL)
