THE KIRKHAMGATE-DISHFORTH TRUNK ROAD SCHEME: AN ANALYSIS OF THE POLITICS OF TRUNK ROAD PLANNING
The paper examines the complex issues involved in trunk road planning and, in particular, the critical issues involved in the Kirkhamgate-Dishforth trunk road scheme. The decisons taken during the planning stages of such projects, either on a technical or political basis, are generally structured at two levels either concerning general problems arising from road planning or those specific to a particular case. The critical discussion of this particular project is covered in the following chapters : 1) road planning and policy in Britain, and 2) the Kirkhamgate-Dishforth scheme. The manner in which decisions were made when considering the planning processes involved in the project are assessed in the overall analysis. (TRRL)
