MULTIMODAL PASSENGER TERMINALS (A CANADIAN ANALYSIS)

A multimodal passenger terminal, a facility shared by two or more modes, is studied in relation to what it may do for the carriers and public. The relation of the local transit operator and taxis in relation to the intercity modes is discussed. Beyond the users, the effects on local business, the municipality, the provinces and Transport Canada are described. Some of the barriers to implementation are listed, although the study mentions one which is already operating and another planned. Finally there are suggestions that research is needed, particularly in the areas of terminals and terminal access, roles in the intercity market, and actual building of MPTs.
