SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SOVEREIGNTY IN THE POLAR REGIONS

Consists mainly of revised papers from a colloquium held at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. The book does not deal primarily with the Antarctic or Arctic regions but rather with practical situations and legal problems commonly expected to develop or already developing in any geographical location where national territorial sovereignty is unsettled, and where, additionally, maritime and admiralty law and the law of the sea are either undeveloped or unclear. The reference documents are of value partly because of their geographical application but more because they stand as precedent for certain legal positions and principles.
