BACKGROUND DOCUMENTATION FOR THE ACTION TO LOWER THE SPEED IN HOUSING AREAS
ACHTERGRONDDOCUMENTATIE TEN BEHOEVE VAN DE ACTIE WOONOMGEVING
The booklet gives the necessary background information for the action "housing environment". Some aspects of the problems that different age groups have in residential areas with traffic are described. The problems that a speed of 50 km/hr in residential areas cause for the people living there are explained: in quiet areas children and parents do not expect cars and also drivers think that they can drive faster in a quiet area. As a result more accidents happen in these areas involving pedestrians and cyclists than elsewhere. The action "housing environment" is intended to make people aware of this. (TRRL)
