INFORMING THE USERS: APPROACH OF THE AUTHORITIES AND PERSONNEL OF BUS NETWORKS

INFORMATIONS DES USAGERS : APPROCHE DES RESPONSABLES ET DES AGENTS DES RESEAUX D'AUTOBUS

In this report the results of interviews held in Le Mans and Nice with authorities and personnel of bus services are presented. The first part analyses the way in which the authorities formulate information and how they view the passengers. The second part shows how the personnel perceive passengers' requirements and the adequacy of the means of information employed to meet these requirements. The point was to find if formal information fulfilled or not passengers' expectations. Since the authorities proceeded from the concept of information to the concept of the consumer and not the opposite, it became evident that a divergence existed between the actions undertaken, the perspectives of development and the actual needs. This study follows up an equiry held in Le Mans and Nice among the inhabitants, directors and employees of the bus services, and which was the subject of Report No 33 of the IRT in June 1978.
