UTILISATION OF SPECIAL TRANSPORT SERVICES FOR THE PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED - CASE STUDY OF NANCY AND AMIENS

UTILISATION DES SERVICES SPECIFIQUES DE TRANSPORT POUR LES HANDICAPES PHYSIQUES - CAS DE NANCY ET D'AMIENS

This document deals with the utilisation of special transport services for the physically handicapped in Amiens and Nancy. The inquiry carried out among the handicapped population shows that the creation of a special service means the possibility of academic or professional reinsertion into society for the majority of handicapped persons. The organisation of special transport must fulfil two different requirements: an adapted vehicle and a back-up service. The analysis tries to define the people who use special transport services and their motives, and to identify the non-users and their means of mobility. This study should enable the "social utility" of special transport services for handicapped people to be evaluated.
