AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE LOSSES PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION COVERAGES. CLAIM FREQUENCY RESULTS BY SIZE OF CLAIM 1978-1980 MODELS
This report presents injury claim frequency results for 1978-1980 model year cars. The frequency of all paid and pending claims combined, and the frequencies of paid claims exceeding $250, $500 and $1,000 respectively are shown for those cars with sufficient claims to be statistically valid. The results, based on the larger medical claims, indicate the frequency of occurrence of injuries of increasing severities. Each claim frequency result is in relative terms, with 100 representing the result for all cars combined in each claim size category. Thus, comparisons among vehicles must be made either within a particular claim size category, or by considering the sets of claim frequency results. The relative claim frequency results for the different claim size amounts are not directly comparable because the sets of relative results are based on different values of 100. The report is based on injury coverages and injury claims involving 1978 through 1980 models in the period from their introduction through December 1980. The results for vehicles discontinued prior to the 1980 model year, are not included in this report.
