A REVIEW OF THE TECHNOLOGY OF INTERLOCKING CONCRETE BLOCK PAVING FOR ROADS AND INDUSTRIAL PAVEMENTS
This paper reviews the progress that has been made, worldwide, in the application of interlocking concrete paving blocks. The historical development, advantages and disadvantages of various block paving systems are outlined and examples are given of the application of paving blocks in the construction of both road and industrial pavements. Manufacturing methods are briefly described and their influence on block tolerances is assessed. Current manufacturing specifications are then compared. Methods for laying the blocks by hand and machine are discussed and details of outputs and costs are given. A summary is included of current design methods for block pavements. (Author)
