DEVELOPMENT OF CONTROL TECHNIQUES FOR DC VEHICLES
DIE ENTWICKLUNG DER STEUERUNGSTECHNIK FUER GLEICHSTROMFAHRZEUGE
The use of dc traction for streetcars, urban rapid transit, subways and suburban commuter trains with operating voltages from 600 to 1500 v dc is considered. Effort made to increase the speed, reduce energy consumption, and improve service and maintenance are reported. Progress made in developing better mechanisms for mechanical switches is also noted. Further improvements can be realized by the utilization of power electronics as switching elements for vehicle control. A description is given of the advantages of chopper control. The connection with three-phase asynchronous drives offers further improvements.
