CAM-CLAY PREDICTIONS OF UNDRAINED STRENGTH. CLOSURE
The author thanks Koutsoftos and Anderson for emphasizing that the data are primarily from triaxial compression tests. He notes that S sub u/sigma sub v (nc) values from isotropically and anisotropically consolidated undrained triaxial compression tests do not correlate with PI and cites the work of Schuertmann, Morgenstern, and Larsson as arguments against the use of global empirical correlations with PI. The values of Lambda sub o in Table 1 were determined from a total stress approach described by Fig. 9 and were equal to 0.78 and not 0.88 as reported in Table 1. Koutsoftas has indicated the importance of stress rotation on the undrained shear strength of clay soils. The CK sub o, UC, CK sub o, UDSS, and CK sub o UE tests can be used to represent principal strss rotations approximating betce equals 0 deg, 35 deg, 45 deg and 90 deg, respectively. The author concludes by answering Koutsoftas's questions about specific soils.
