NANCO LIGHT VEHICLE NOISE ENFORCEMENT
In order to assist State and local authorities in effectively dealing with this problem, the National Association of Noise Control Officials (NANCO) formed a Vehicle Noise Task Force composed of experienced State and local administrative and enforcement personnel, as well as representatives from industry. The objective was to review existing data, techniques and methodologies for light vehicle noise enforcement. The rsults are presented in the NANCO Model On-Road Light Vehicle Noise Enforcement Procedures Manual, which forms the basis of the enforcement program discussed in this paper. The three main elements of an effective vehicle noise enforcement program are described: noisy vehicle identification; citation; and compliance (correction).
