DYNAMICS OF SHELLS
Recent analytical and experimental research activities in the area of dynamic behavior of thin elastic shells at the Structural Mechanics Laboratory of Northwestern University are reviewed. These activities fall within the following three groups: analytical and experimental studies of frequency spectra and mode shapes of cylindrical shells subjected to initial mechanical stresses and non-uniform heating; analytical and experimental studies of impact loading of cylindrical shells and rings; and dynamic interaction of cylindrical shells and a surrounding fluid.
