UNITED PARCEL SERVICE APPLIES TEXACO STRATIFIED CHARGE ENGINE TECHNOLOGY TO POWER PARCEL DELIVERY VANS. PROGRESS REPORT
The UPS 292 SC program to apply the Texaco Controlled-Combustion System (TCCS) to a package delivery van service included engine evaluations to determine conversion feasibility. The GM 292 in six cylinder gasoline engine was found to be compatible with the TCCS. Four multicylinder engines were fabricated by Ricardo Consulting Engineers Ltd. One has been dynamometer tested and installed in a UPS package delivery van. Performance comparison with a standard GM 292 is presented. The test program has included side-by-side vehicle operation in simulated parcel delivery service.
