STUDY OF AN ELECTRICALLY PROPELLED, HIGH-SPEED, AIR-CUSHION AMPHIBIAN
The report covers a study on an electrically propelled air-cushion amphibian capable of moving a 20-ton container and/or bulk cargo. The combination of wheel traction and air-cushion lift gives this amphibian unique capabilities. These capabilities include: high water and land speed; cross-country mobility; easy positioning; equal load distribution over the whole length of the vehicle, thus permitting crossing of bridges that would otherwise require strengthening or rebuilding; independent four-wheel drive for maximum vehicle control on land. The purpose of the report is to point out that electric propulsion can be readily adapted to special propulsion systems and requirements even under circumstances where other propulsion systems would not be practical anymore.
