Roads: Chinese Investment in Road Infrastructure and Economic Network in Africa

Worldwide, infrastructure is an integral part of prosperity and economic confidence in the 21st century. The planning and execution of investments from developed economies represents the hope of many countries to compete in the global market, which is why infrastructure is critical for many countries at all levels of development. This paper seeks to investigate what role China plays in road infrastructure development in Africa and what investment actually leads to in relation to the creation of new opportunities, development and economic growth. At the same time, an attempt is being made to provide a cooperative picture of this relationship when it comes specifically to the infrastructure sector, as well as to demonstrate links to different cases of African infrastructure in which China has so far invested. The proposed methodology allows to explore the impact of Chinese investments in road infrastructure projects in African countries and how the latter impact on the economic growth of the African continent, for it implements a spatial econometric model autoregressive cross- sectional data and panel.
